Whilst learning to surf in the jungly coast of Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, I lived with two Swedish guys who were cousins. One of them wore his Chuck Taylors everywhere and I mean everywhere, even the beach. One afternoon he got up to get food from the kitchen, leaving his gum beside his shoes (I suppose because he was about to eat). Of course there was a rubbish bin in the kitchen. But who’s complaining, I saw the shot and exactly how I wanted it to turn out.

Early one morning in Havana, my tico (Costa Rican) friend Oscar and I

heard raised voices and found an old woman complaining to a florist

about the price of his sunflowers. She angrily stalked into her house

and the florist gives us this sheepish look before cycling away into the

busy city streets.
